NEW! EUROPEAN BOOK CLUB

In September, 2010, the Istituto joined the newly-established Canadian branch of EUNIC, the network of the international cultural relations institutes from the member states of the European Union. Along with the IIC, the EUNIC-Canada cluster counts the Alliance Française, the Goethe Institut and the Instituto Cervantes among its members.
Several activities are being studied. The first project to be launched under this new umbrella is a European book club: one book every two months, rotating between French, German and Italian authors (for now! more countries joining) - all in their English translation.

The first cycle wrapped up in November 2011, and the new 2012 series will start on Saturday, February 25, 4 to 6 pm at the Alliance Française, with the German book Crime (Verbrechen), by Ferdinand von Schirach.

The Italian meeting will follow, on Saturday, April 28, at 4 pm at the Istituto, with the novel Accabadora by Michela Murgia.

After that, there will be 3 more meetings in 2012: a Portuguese book in June, a Polish one in September, and a French one in November (dates tba).

OUR BOOK CLUB IN ITALIAN

Read fiction by outstanding contemporary Italian authors, and then meet with the moderated group to discuss the books - all in Italian!

Participation in our book clubs remains open and free to all IIC members, but a $20 contribution for the term is required to help defray administrative costs.

For the first semester 2012, the group will meet every other Tuesday at 6 pm, at the Istituto. The first meeting was held on Tuesday, January 10, and the last one will be on Tuesday, June 26.
